Just mention 20days!
Our buddies at Snowsafe sell a wide range of avalanche safety equipment which may well just save you in event of an emergency (avalanche rather than alcohol related – although the airbags make excellent pillows after a big night out......) We’ve picked out a few of our fave pieces below, and rather brilliantly, you will get a 15% discount off anything on their website just because you are a 20days member – bonus!
Transceivers:
f1 Focus:
The f1 focus is the most widely sold avalanche transceiver worldwide and is a long-standing favourite with professionals. The analogue technique of the f1 focus is completed by a visual search indicator. If you put on the f1 with its lightweight one belt system, the device is automatically switched on. There is only one rotary switch for switch-over from transmit to receive mode. Under ideal conditions the f1 can achieve a range of about 80 m. Thus the search path can be shortened and you get faster to the buried person.
The numbers of beeps indicate at the same time if you have to face a multiple burial situation. The visual search indicator shaped in an LED arrow doesn't only show the right way, but also when you have to turn the volume control switch for adjusting the receiver sensibility.
DTS Tracker:
In 1997, the Tracker DTS revolutionized the transceiver market by introducing digital, dual antenna technology. Since then, it has become the world's best-selling transceiver. The reason for this is simple: it's the easiest to use.
The dual antenna technology gives the searcher the precise distance and direction to the buried person(s) rather than the searcher having to use a grid or tangent search pattern. The transceivers dual antenna captures the victim(s) signal and the microprocessor then uses straightforward visual signals (keeping the centre light on and the distance decreasing) to the buried victim.
Ortovox S1
The world's first sensor controlled avalanche transceiver. The S1's sensor-driven triple-antenna design allows for extremely fast multiple-burial searches.
The S1 displays the position and distance of the buried victims on its large illuminated display. Search mode is activated simply by opening the transceiver. Ortovox's newly developed circle interpretation makes pin point searching faster and easier than ever before.
The S1 also features an electric compass, thermometer, and inclinometer and gives the searcher information on burial depth. There is an automatic safety switch-back to transmit mode in case of secondary avalanche.
ABS Airbag units:
ABS Vario:
The Vario Base Unit is a custom product of top quality. It is TÜV examined, designed for the high demands of an avalanche and with functionality in mind. The form of the airbags is enhanced in a way that it can provide protection for the head – without compromising neck and head movement.
Avalung 2:
Most victims who survive the initial avalanche slide die from suffocation if not found quickly.
This is where an AvaLung steps in.The AvaLung draws oxygen directly from the surrounding snowpack, buying precious time if you become buried in an avalanche. The system then diverts exhausted carbon dioxide away from your fresh-air intake zone, minimizing CO2 contamination.
After 15 minutes of burial in an avalanche the chance of survival drops dramatically. The average time of rescue with an avalanche transceiver is 20 minutes. The AvaLung acts as an artificial air pocket, allowing the user to breathe while buried and so greatly lengthening the time one can survive under the snow.
The shoulder sling is comfortable to wear and weighs just 9 ounces. It has been proven to extend lives and is trusted by avalanche control workers, ski mountaineers and guides worldwide.
Cougar Shovel:
The Cougar avalanche shovel from Ortovox is lightweight, but incredibly sharp and stable. The telescoping shaft means the Cougar fits in almost any pack, the anti-slip grip is useful when you have to move hard or heavy snow and the ergonomically designed handle makes this shovel is easy to use and suitable for right and left handers.
The Cougar features a lightweight blade, made from unbreakable, torsion-free Lexan, which gives the shovel high impact strength at low temperatures. The red blade is transparent so it looks really cool too. The ultra-sharp blade also doubles up as an axe or hoe, cutting through even the toughest snow with minimal effort. The unique pivot also allows the shovel to be used for snow study.
A high quality piece of safety equipment that doubles up as the ideal tool for building kickers.
Economic Shovel:
For the weight conscious, Ortovox have developed an ultra-lightweight shovel to stash in your pack.
The Economic features a robust aluminium handle, T shaped grip and a transparent blue shovel blade. The lightweight blade is made from unbreakable, torsion-free Lexan giving the shovel high impact strength at low temperatures.
Guaranteed for five years, the price of this shovel makes it hard to beat!
Lynx:
The Lynx is a basic, robust, lightweight shovel. The tough aluminium blade is capable of handling any condition and can easily cut through hard, compact snow.
The strong aluminium handle is easy to detach from the blade making the Lynx easy to stow away in your pack and the ergonomic T shaped grip is friendly to both mitts and gloves.
Check and Ride:
Correctly estimating the risk of avalanche is crucial in off-piste terrain and can be lifesaving.
The check and ride by ORTOVOX is an ingeniously simple instrument which displays all the information needed for assessing the avalanche risk. It is lightweight and compact and easily fits into your pocket.
The device is designed to store all the relevant avalanche details from the daily report, so it is always on hand for easy reference. It also features a slope measuring device and a compass.
Wrist Guard
The Demon Wrist Guards are low profile wrist protectors designed to fit neatly under your gloves or mittens. The curved aluminium splint fits comfortably along your wrist and into your palm.
An effective prevention against all too common wrist injuries when snowboarding, they can also be used for skateboarding and mountain boarding.
